Official Background Checks in California
California DOJ does not sell public statewide rap sheets by name. Penal Code section 11105 limits state summary criminal history to the subject and authorized recipients. An El Dorado County resident reviewing their own record completes the BCIA 8016RR form and submits fingerprints through Live Scan. DOJ charges $25, while the capture site's rolling fee is separate. A fee waiver may be available to a qualifying California resident.

El Dorado Custody Records in CitizenRIMS
Sheriff CitizenRIMS is the best first check for current custody at the Placerville or South Lake Tahoe jail. The roster can show name, booking number, booking date, arresting agency, arrest location, and custody status. Juvenile information is excluded. Details change after release or transfer, and an empty result does not prove there was no past arrest or warrant.
Placerville Jail, 300 Forni Road, 530-621-6000, has capacity for 303 people plus eight outpatient medical beds. South Lake Tahoe Jail, 1051 Al Tahoe Boulevard, 530-573-3030, holds up to 158. Call the appropriate facility when a dynamic roster entry is unclear.

Sheriff requests may be submitted in person, by mail, or by fax. Identification is required before release. The Sheriff states it will respond within 10 working days, though exemptions or redactions may apply. The posted copy charge is $0.25 per page, payable by cash or check.

Restricted, Sealed & Expunged Records
Juvenile files, sealed arrests, sealed court records, confidential DOJ history, and protected police-report details do not appear like ordinary public records. Placerville Police identifies child abuse, medical or mental-health matters, unresolved arrest reports, and active investigations among records that may be withheld. Victim, witness, and investigative details may be redacted.
Penal Code section 851.91 permits qualifying people to petition to seal an arrest that did not result in conviction. Section 1203.4 can allow a qualifying person who completed probation to obtain dismissal. This does not destroy every trace or erase all consequences. El Dorado's M-55 form lists the dismissal order as a requestable court document.

A local CORI is not a state rap sheet. A clearance letter also excludes arrests made outside Sheriff jurisdiction.
El Dorado Criminal Court Branches
The Placerville Main Street Branch at 495 Main Street handles west-slope criminal matters and houses Departments 1, 2, 6, and 7. Its secured building has accessible entry at the rear, an elevator, accessible lower-floor restroom, and rear handicap parking. The South Lake Tahoe Branch at 1354 Johnson Boulevard handles Tahoe-side matters. Both list weekday office and phone hours from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding holidays and closures.
The M-55 form requests a register of actions, charging documents, sentencing orders, or a Penal Code 1203.4 dismissal order. It excludes police and arrest reports, transcripts, warrants, and confidential documents. Send the request to the correct branch and department.

El Dorado Criminal Warrant Records
No official standalone El Dorado County active-warrant portal was confirmed. The court portal may reveal a related case or missed hearing, but M-55 says the clerk cannot provide warrants. Contact the criminal branch for case status, Sheriff Records or nonemergency staff for lawfully releasable sheriff information, and city police when a city agency is involved.
An arrest warrant authorizes arrest on allegations or probable cause. A bench warrant commonly follows failure to appear or comply. Search warrants may be sealed before execution, while probation or parole warrants arise through supervision. Never treat absence from a jail roster as proof no warrant exists. Use the issuing court or counsel to plan a safe response.
